Did you know eating a healthy diet not only affects the waistline, but can also affect pain and healing? Processed foods and foods high in sugar can actually create an inflammatory response in your tissues, heightening pain, swelling, and prolonging healing times.
- Make sure you are adequately hydrating
- Limit your intake of sugar
- Eat lots of veggies and fruits, in season, frozen, (organic if possible)
- Eat whole and cracked grains
- Eat healthy fats like olive oil, ground flaxseed, nuts, avocado
- Eat fish rich in omega 3’s like wild salmon, wild cod, sardines
- Drink green, white, and oolong teas
- Eat Asian mushrooms, cooked
- Generously add spices like cinnamon, tumeric, ginger, chili peppers, and garlic to your diet which have shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. Add other proteins like eggs, lean meats, natural cheeses, and yogurt And even a glass of red wine, dried fruits, and some dark chocolate!
As always, consult with your doctor and/or a dietician before making any major changes in your lifestyle.
